A planning and listed building application was recently submitted for the redevelopment of the Walworth Town Hall. The overall objective of the project is to meticulously restore the former Walworth Town Hall and Newington Library, both iconic South London listed landmarks, as a new vibrant employment, education and community hub.
The proposal has been subject to extensive public consultation with a variety of local stakeholders whilst being respectful to the existing historical architectural features of the current building.
The proposed workspaces, especially designed for the creative industries and SMEs, is expected to bring over 370 jobs into the building, creative a new active employment hub for the local area.
The proposed development will be anchored by a new community centre and the café / lobby, which will both be open to the public. Other rooms with heritage significance, such as the former council chamber and the former reference library, will open up to the public on various occasions in the form of public events and gathering when the rooms are not utilised as a co-working space.
