Our reinvention of two historic buildings in Clerkenwell nears completion as construction progresses on site.
From the outset, Technique was an opportunity to create something truly remarkable through smart architecture, adaptive re-use and outstanding design.
All materials used in the refurbishment have been chosen to seamlessly fuse art and architecture. The past and future.
The cross-laminated timber structure used in the three storey extension, which was pre-fabricated off site, has now been installed and will be left exposed with a white wash finish.
Two floors down, a triple height art gallery space is already a main feature. With its amazing proportions and natural light, it creates an airy feel rare to experience in central London.
The existing concrete structure of the building has been retained and will be sand blasted to celebrate its latent tactility and tones.
Finally, the infill reception – conceived originally as an art piece in itself – is now being tiled in ‘EXcinere’, Formafantasma’s volcanic ash glazed tiles.
Technique will set a new benchmark for sustainable, adaptive re-use and the development of thoughtful, human-centric office space.
